CUSTOM DESIGNS: In order to get to know your personal style and
preferences, I will need you to ask you a series of questions. Some
points to consider:
What style of music do you play? Do you usually play hard,
soft, somewhere in between? What type of action do you prefer? Do
you play with a pick, or with your fingers?
What instrument do you play now? What do you like and/or
dislike about it? What would you change about it if you could?
Are you an unusually small or unusually tall person? You
may want a shorter or longer scale length than standard.
Do you find a certain style of neck easier to play on? Narrower,
or wider? Do you have a preferred string spacing? Think about both
left and right hands you may find, for example, that you
like narrow spacing at the nut, but wide at the bridge. Or vise
versa
Do you play more acoustically, amplified, or both? Will you
be playing at high volume? (An instrument built for high-volume
amplified playing needs to be less acoustically responsive to avoid
feedback - a trade-off.)
What type of tone do you want the instrument to have? While
not always 100% controllable, tonal response can range from low
and boomy, to trebly and brittle. A thinner top with a larger body
size tends to emphasize the bass, while a thicker top on a smaller
body brings out the high end.
What do you want your instrument to look like? Do you want
specific woods, or a design theme you have in
mind? Inlays or other decoration? An unusual headstock shape? Many
things are possible, restricted only by practicality or your imagination
